On Thursday, May 22, 2025, the sun was shining and the breeze was gentle—a perfect day for a fresh start. On this beautiful day, the “Golden Years Wellness Beginner Computer Class” organized by the Calgary Jiang Zhe Shanghai Association officially commenced in the rehearsal hall of the association’s venue. The course, taught by Mr. Xi Miao, aims to help senior members take their first step into the digital world and easily master basic computer skills.
Before the class began, Mr. Miao gave a brief self-introduction and shared the course’s design philosophy and objectives. The “Smart Digital Class” is specially tailored for seniors with zero computer experience who are interested in learning. The course content is rich and practical, covering topics such as turning on a computer, typing and internet browsing, photo and file management, video chatting, searching for health information, using WeChat, online shopping safety tips, and even creating personal digital newsletters to document their cherished life moments.
The atmosphere in the classroom was warm and lively. Students listened attentively and participated actively. Several senior learners were over 80 years old, yet their enthusiasm for learning was undiminished. Mr. Miao taught with great patience and clarity, using visuals and simple language to explain every step in detail, and addressed each question one by one. In particular, during the input method and pinyin segment, he drew from his many years of teaching and practical experience to remind everyone of essential details like switching between Chinese and English input and entering punctuation—helping students avoid common errors.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all the students who attended today’s class: Shang Jie, Yang Guiying, Ye Daozhen, Dong Jinying, Yuan Aizhen, Zheng Xiangrong, Liu Jie, Wang Jian, Xu Huijuan, Xiao Lifeng, Yang Jing, Ni Guojin, Lü Haifu, Zhang Chunyan, Shan Shuhong, Fan Rongqing (Rita), Liu Shijun, Miao Pinjun, Zhang Shaolin, Shen Quanxi, Chen Jihao, and Chen Bingsheng.
We warmly welcome more friends to join our learning journey. Registration for the course will remain open until June 25, 2025. The class meets once a week, with each session lasting 90 minutes, for a total of 20 sessions. Volunteer assistants and detailed user manuals are provided to help every participant progress from “not knowing” to “being able to use” technology—truly stepping into an age of convenient and smart digital living.
Don’t let the train of the times pass you by. Join the “Smart Digital Class” and let us embrace a joyful senior life together, learning happily and growing continuously!
