Six months ago, we began preparing for today’s significant event—the 2025 Annual General Meeting, which was held as scheduled at our clubhouse at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 21, 2025.
This meeting was charged with three important tasks:
First, President Bing sheng Chen delivered the annual work report for the current council, reviewing the progress, challenges, and achievements of the past year.
Second, Chief Financial Officer Weiguo Wang presented the financial report to the assembly, providing members with a clear and transparent account of the financial operations over the last year.
Third, Xi Miao presided over the constitutional amendments and special resolutions. Over a decade has passed since the last revision in 2014. In light of new developments, needs, and informational changes, it has become crucial to update the council’s constitution to keep pace with the times. During this process, the attending members meticulously reviewed and discussed every word and sentence of the proposed amendments, hoping that this revision would better align the constitution with the current practical needs of the association’s development and operations.
To accomplish these three tasks, the council had begun preparations six months in advance, engaging in numerous discussions, revisions, and refinements to ensure a rigorous and comprehensive process.
The entire meeting was chaired by Vice President Daniel Hou. After Vice President Hou solemnly declared the meeting open, all attendees stood for the playing of the national anthems of Canada and the People’s Republic of China. The grand overture to the general meeting commenced with the solemn melodies of the two anthems.
However, the weather was not on our side. Just yesterday, June 20th, Calgary experienced a rare and violent storm that raged from day to night without cease. This morning, the wind and rain continued to batter the city, with gusts so strong that some friends had their umbrellas blown inside out. Some members were soaked to the bone by the downpour. A suggestion was made to postpone the meeting, but everyone understood the difficulty of rescheduling, as it would be hard for many members to coordinate their time to attend again. Therefore, the decision was made to proceed with the meeting, rain or shine.
Movingly, despite such adverse weather, members traveled from all corners of the city, braving the storm to attend and demonstrating a strong sense of responsibility and belonging. Of the 73 members who had registered to attend, 56 were present. This attendance was especially commendable and admirable given that the majority were seniors.
The meeting ultimately proceeded smoothly. After enthusiastic discussions, the two agenda items and the special resolution for the constitutional amendments were all passed by a show of hands. Following the meeting, we enjoyed a screening of the movie “Detective Chinatown 1900,” bringing the general meeting to a warm and fulfilling conclusion.
We thank every member who attended and showed their support. It is because of you that we have such a united and progressive community.

一,由陈炳生会长作,本届理事会的年终工作总结,回顾过去一年走过的脚步,面对的挑战,以及取得的成果;
二,由王卫国财务总监向大会作财务报告,向会员们清晰、透明地汇报过去一年的财务运作情况;
